Product Overview

SoCo Texas Juicy IPA (NEIPA) - All Grain

This 6.1% ABV juicy IPA features San Jacinto 2 row malt from TexMalt Malting in Fort Worth.  Azacca, Sabro, and Citra hops provide an explosion of tropical, mango, citrus, tangerine, and stone fruit flavors and aromas.

Characteristics:

  • ABV:  6.1%
  • SRM:  5.1
  • IBU:  35.3
  • OG:  1.060
  • FG:  1.015

Whirlpool/Steeping Hops:  This recipe calls for whirlpool/steeping hops which are added after the boil.  For simplicity, our IBU (Bitterness) calculations are based on steeping/whirlpooling hops at 194°F for 15-20 minutes.  Whirlpooling at different temperatures and for different lengths of time will impact flavor and aroma differently.  For more information about steeping/whirlpool hops, please refer to the American Homebrewers Association's article on The Effect of Post-Boil/Whirlpool Hop Additions on Bitterness in Beer.

This recipe kit DOES NOT  include yeast, priming sugar or grain bags.  However, we do give you yeast options at the top of the page. We designed this beer using Fogbow liquid yeast from Community Cultures in San Antonio, Texas which gives this beer an estimated final gravity of 1.015.  The other recommended yeasts for this recipe may have different levels of attenuation which may result in slight variations in the final gravity and alcohol content.

Priming Sugar:  For priming sugar, we recommend the following:

Grain Bag:  If you need a grain bag, we recommend the following:

Hop Straining Bags:  If you need hop straining bags, we recommend the following:

Kveik Yeast Option:  If you are feeling adventurous, consider using a Kveik yeast strain for your New England style hazy/juicy IPA.  Most of these yeasts provide plenty of fruity flavors and can handle temperatures above 90°F!  If you ferment these yeasts at higher temperatures, some of these strains will be done fermenting within 3-4 days.  Our Kveik yeast strains can be found here:  Kveik Yeast Strains

* We strongly recommend adding an ice pack when ordering liquid yeast.  Transit times can vary and liquid yeast works best when it remains cold until the day you brew.

    Nice Hazy

Posted by John Love on 19th Feb 2024

Has a great fruity aroma and very good flavor. This was my first successful hazy. I have dumped large portions of probably 5 NEIPAs. I had 2 issues to overcome before I finally got it right. My first issue was a good water profile. Still working on that but with RO to start and the Brewfather app, I am finally dialing that in. Second issue was oxidation. I had been a fairly successful extract brewer for years and when I decided to go all grain, I jumped right into making NEIPAs without really researching how prone to oxidation they are. With some equipment changes and the ability to do a closed transfer, I finally got it right with this kit. I will make this again. Currently brewing the Hazer Face Juicy and hoping for an even better result this time around. Good recipe! Greta price!
