Product Overview
SoCo California Common (Steam Beer) - Partial Mash
A California Common (AKA Steam Beer). This beer is brewed with lager yeast at warmer temperatures. This type of beer was made popular during the late 1800's and early 1900's on the West Coast when refrigeration was not available. This beer is amber in color and has a moderate amount of bitterness and hop flavor. Mt. Hood hops are used for bittering while Nugget hops provide spice, herbal, and citrus (grapefruit and pineapple) flavors and aromas. Â

This recipe kit DOES NOT  include yeast, priming sugar or grain bags. However, we do give you yeast options at the top of the page. This recipe was designed using White Labs WLP810 San Francisco Lager yeast. Using an alternative yeast may result in slight variations in attenuation and final gravity. For example, using Fermentis SafLager 34/70 has a higher predicted attenuation level which may result in slightly higher ABV and lower final gravity.
Priming Sugar:Â For priming sugar, we recommend the following:
Grain Bags:Â If you need a grain bag, we recommend the following:
Hop Straining Bags:Â If you need hop straining bags, we recommend the following:

* We strongly recommend adding an ice pack when ordering liquid yeast. Transit times can vary and liquid yeast works best when it remains cold until the day you brew.
