Product Overview
SoCo Black IPA - Partial Mash
This Black IPA features American style Simcoe, Centennial, and Cascade hops which provide this IPA with plenty of pine and citrus flavors and aromas. This beer is black in color but lacks the roasted flavors that come with roasted barley and black malt. Alternatively, we used Midnight Wheat which gives this beer a smoother malt profile.
Hop Sensory Profile:
- Centennial: Predominantly citrus but with undertones like lemongrass and pine needles often evident. The citrus character can be reminiscent of Cascade ( grapefruit), the variety it’s most often compared to.
- Simcoe®: Aroma and flavor descriptors include citrus, grapefruit, stone fruit, tropical, woody
- Cascade: a popular variety in craft brewing and is known for having a unique floral, spicy and citrus (particularly grapefruit) character.

This recipe kit DOES NOT include yeast, priming sugar or grain bags. However, we do give you yeast options at the top of the page. This recipe was designed using White Labs WLP001 California Ale liquid yeast. Using an alternative yeast may result in slight variations in attenuation and final gravity.
Yeast Pitch Rate: We highly recommend preparing a yeast starter or using 2 packets of yeast for this recipe due to the high original gravity (OG) in order to keep the yeast happy and healthy.
Priming Sugar: For priming sugar, we recommend the following:
Grain Bags: If you need a grain bag, we recommend the following:
Hop Straining Bags: If you need hop straining bags, we recommend the following:

* We strongly recommend adding an ice pack when ordering liquid yeast. Transit times can vary and liquid yeast works best when it remains cold until the day you brew.
